What resources are available to help the translation teams?

The following are resources that are available to anyone working on a Bible translation project.

The Bible Project -

This website has videos that provide concise, book-level overviews of many books of the Bible, as well as topical and biographical videos. Available in 55+ languages.  For book-level summaries, go to 'All Videos' -> Old Testament (or New Testament) Summaries www.bibleproject.com/languages

Book-Level Resources Folder (Avodah) -

Ask your Project Administrator, Quality Coach, or Avodah representative for access to the Book-Level Resources Folder in Google Drive, where we are gathering links to relevant resources, and providing Book Overview notes (currently available in English & Indonesian).

Find.Bible

Many translated versions of the Bible are available here, in many languages.  In addition to Bible translations, you can also search for biblical resources in your language. www.find.bible

Translators' Notes

Translator's Notes (TN) is a verse-by-verse commentary geared specifically for local Bible translators, produced by the SIL International Translation Department, and authored by experienced translation consultants. TN is written in easy English for translators whose mother tongue is not English. The target audience is translators who have some high school (ideally ten years of education) and who read at a 6-8th grade level.  Some are available via www.opentn.bible (more being added, languages other than English are under development) and all are available via Paratext.  Other languages under development.

Bible Well

The Bible Well app taps into curated, multi-modal, multilingual Bible and Biblical resources provided through Aquifer. Using the Bible Well app, church-centric teams in remote and semi-remote locations interact with translation guides in their own language. Supplemental content, such as images and translation resources, enhance the experience and can be readily shown on mobile devices.

The Bible Well app has been designed to work whether connected directly to the internet or disconnected. When a translation coordinator expects to be working offline, the app is designed to allow them to download needed content ahead of time on their mobile device while considering potential network and cost limitations.

Audio, Image, and Video Exegetical Resources (SRV)

SRV (via ETEN Innovation Lab) has created audio, image, and video exegetical resources (in English) for 8 books of the Bible (as of May 2024: Genesis, Exodus, Job, the 4 Gospels, Acts), with the goal of completing resources for the whole Bible within four years.  The same resources are being translated to a number of other languages.  The exegetical resources are embedded in the FIA (Familiarization, Internalization, Articulation) Process of Translation, developed specifically for church-based Bible translation.  www.cbbt-er.org/
