What is a 'translation comparison'?
- A ‘translation comparison’ consists of multiple machine-translated versions of a text, side-by-side for comparison
- You will see 4-6 versions of the same translated text, all in a row next to the source text
- You will pick which translation version you think is the best out of all of them
Why do we do a translation comparison?
The translation comparison assignment is very important because:
- It helps Avodah to know which trained AI translation model provides the best quality translation
- Future machine translations will come from this selection of ‘best’ translation
- Future machine translations will improve based on this selection
How to complete a Translation Comparison assignment in Woven:
From your Dashboard, click on the translation comparison assignment. You will see the total number of tasks indicated by the green dots across the top of the screen. The dots turn white as the tasks are completed.
The tasks are listed on the left side of the screen. If you wish to see only the tasks that are not yet completed, click the 'Incomplete Only' button, found at the top of the Task List. Click on the task you want to work on. That task will appear in the 'Assess & Select' box.
Follow the instructions in the 'Assess & Select' box. First, read the text provided in the source language and then select the best target translation from the options provided. The selected translation will be shown by a checkmark. After you have selected the best option, click on 'Next.'
When you select the best translation for the last task in the list, a 'Submit' button will appear in place of the 'Next' button. Click 'Submit' to complete the assignment.
